Chunya Munga Signs New Deal with Premiership Champions Northampton Saints
International Sports Consulting (ISC) is proud to announce that Chunya Munga, one of rugby’s rising stars, has signed a new contract to remain with Premiership title holders Northampton Saints beyond this season.
Standing an imposing 6ft 7in and weighing 120kg, the 24-year-old lock joined the Saints in the summer of 2023 following the unfortunate demise of London Irish, his former club. Since his arrival, Munga has cemented his place as a vital part of the squad, making 24 appearances across all competitions for Northampton.
A Key Contributor to the Title Success
Munga’s impact was particularly felt last season, as he featured in 14 league matches during Saints’ march to Premiership glory. Although he didn’t play in the Grand Final victory over Bath at Twickenham, his contributions throughout the season were pivotal to the team’s success.
Northampton’s director of rugby, Phil Dowson, praised Munga’s resilience and determination to improve: “Towards the back end of last season, we were playing well and were very consistent with our selection, meaning Chunya wasn’t playing as much as he would have liked. He said to me repeatedly that he understood why, but didn’t like it, and it’s been fantastic to see him come in this year and really put his best foot forward for more minutes on the pitch. We love having him in the group and are excited to see what the next few years hold in store for him.”
Stepping Up This Season
Munga’s determination has paid dividends this season, where he has already started eight games for Northampton and even captained the side during Premiership Rugby Cup fixtures against Leicester Tigers and Coventry. His leadership on and off the field has earned him respect within the squad and among fans.
Reflecting on his time with the Saints, Munga shared his excitement about extending his stay: “I’m absolutely loving my time with Saints, and extending my stay was a very easy choice. It speaks volumes about the club’s environment that even during the periods where I wasn’t in the matchday squads last season, it was still the most fun I’ve ever had in a rugby team. Playing with a smile on my face, aiming to be the best player I can be, and making the people that love and support me proud – that’s why I love playing the game.”
Looking Ahead
As Northampton Saints aim to defend their Premiership crown, the re-signing of Chunya Munga represents a commitment to their future and an investment in the talent that underpins their success. ISC is thrilled to see Chunya continue to grow and excel at the highest level of the game.
